Overview
In October 2025, the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) ruled that Apple overcharged UK consumers for nearly a decade through excessive App Store commission fees.
The Tribunal found Apple abused its dominant position by charging up to 30% on paid apps, subscriptions and in-app purchases on iPhones and iPads between 1 October 2015 and 15 November 2024.
The CAT said fair rates should have been much lower — 17.5% for app distribution and 10% for in-app purchases and subscriptions — meaning consumers and businesses likely paid more than they should have during this period.
The case is being hailed as a watershed moment for digital fairness and consumer rights.
It could lead to compensation for up to 36 million people in the UK. Are you one of them?

That depends on how much you spent during the relevant period and the method the Tribunal approves for distributing compensation. Final amounts haven’t been set yet.
