Overview

Until recently, emissions lawsuits have focused solely on diesel vehicles, but that could all be about to change. And if you bought or leased a petrol car that breached emissions limits, you could be due up to 5,000 in compensation.

European regulators discovered several large diesel car manufacturers cheated on emissions tests. As a result, hundreds of thousands of motorists overpaid for cars and vans that performed worse in terms of emissions and fuel economy than advertised. The cars were also worth less than people paid for them. Lawyers now believe some petrol vehicles were also fitted with prohibited emissions cheating “defeat devices”.

In some dieselgate cases, UK claimants received payouts averaging £2,120. Owners of petrol cars manufacturers could be next.
