Overview

In December 2021, food manufacturer Greencore experienced a cyberattack in which the hackers managed to access sensitive HR data. Affected employees were not told their personal information might have been exposed until February 2022.

The stolen employee data is said to include names, contact details, job titles, salary information, holiday and absence records, dates of birth, National Insurance numbers, passport numbers, and bank account details. If this data gets into the wrong hands, it could lead to scams, fraud, and ID theft.

Lawyers are taking legal action on behalf of those affected by the Greencore data breach.

What do we know about the Greencore data breach?

  • Current and former Greencore employees were impacted by the breach.
  • The delay in notifying affected Greencore employees has been criticised by data breach layers. Not being able to protect themselves immediately after the breach left victims vulnerable to cyber fraud and scams.
  • Following the breach, Greencore claimed there was no evidence the stolen data had been misused by cybercriminals. But there is no guarantee that it won’t be used in the future.
  • An employer cannot fire you or take any disciplinary/retaliatory action against you for making a data protection claim. It would be breaching employment if it did.

Greencore data breach FAQs

In December 2021, cyberattackers managed to break into Greencore’s IT systems and access some sensitive HR data. As with most data protection failures, it’s unlikely the hackers would have managed to access Greencore’s systems if the proper security processes had been in place.

The stolen employee data is said to include names, contact details, job titles, salary information, holiday and absence records, dates of birth, National Insurance numbers, passport numbers, and bank account details.

A group action claim allows people affected by the same issue to take action together. This strength in numbers helps stand up to big organisations. Join the Claim helps connect people with law firms so these actions have real impact.
