Five things you should know about the PlayStation pricing claim

The PlayStation pricing claim has made headlines, but how much do you really know about it? If you’ve bought digital PlayStation games or in-game content in the last few years, this could affect you. Here are five key facts you might not know.

1. You’re probably already included

This is an opt-out collective claim, which means if you’re eligible, you don’t need to do anything to be part of it. Unless you actively choose to opt out, you’re automatically included. But signing up means you’ll get updates and know when action is needed – so you don’t miss your chance at compensation.

2. It covers millions of UK gamers

The claim is huge. Around nine million UK PlayStation owners could be affected. If you bought digital games or in-game content from the PlayStation Store between 19 August 2016 and 19 August 2022, this is about you.

3. It could be worth up to £5 billion

Yes, £5 billion. That’s the total amount the claim is seeking from Sony. If the Competition Appeal Tribunal rules in favour of the claimants, it will be one of the biggest consumer compensation cases in UK history.

4. You could get £67–£562 back

How much could you personally receive? Legal experts estimate payouts of £67 to £562 per person, depending on your PlayStation purchases during the claim period. That’s money back for things you’ve already paid for.

5. The case is already moving forward

Sony tried to stop the claim from going ahead – and failed. The Competition Appeal Tribunal has certified the case, and a trial is scheduled to start in March 2026. It’s not a quick process, but progress is being made.

What should you do next?

If you meet the criteria, you’re likely already included in the claim. But registering means you’ll get updates, reminders, and clear instructions if action is needed later.
