Claim compensation
Overview
Amazon is facing a massive legal claim in the UK over how it uses its market power.
On most Amazon product pages, there’s a section with the “Add to Basket” and “Buy Now” buttons. That area is known as the Buy Box. What many shoppers don’t realise is that multiple sellers may offer the same product – but only one seller’s offer gets placed in the Buy Box at a time.
That matters, because around 80% of Amazon sales go through the Buy Box. Most shoppers don’t browse beyond it – they just click and buy.
A legal claim says Amazon has abused its dominance by favouring its own offers or certain sellers in the Buy Box, even when cheaper options were available. Experts estimate this could have cost UK shoppers over £1 billion in overpayments.
If you purchased a product from Amazon.co.uk between 1 October 2015 and 7 June 2023, you may be due compensation.
